When is Tradocan Forte lozenge prescribed for?

For the short-term local treatment of sore throat in non-purulent infections.

How should you take Tradocan Forte lozenge?

  • Allow Tradocan Forte lozenges to slowly melt in the mouth.
  • Adults: take one lozenge every 2 hours.
  • The maximum daily dose of 6 lozenges may not be exceeded.

When you should not take Tradocan Forte lozenge?

  • Hypersensitivity (allergy) to lidocaine HCl or other amide type local anaesthetics, or any of the other ingredients contained in the product.
  • Children under the age of 12

Special warning and precautions on using Tradocan Forte lozenge

Do not use Tradocan Forte lozenges for longer than 3 days without medical advice

Possible Drug interaction with Tradocan Forte lozenge

The following interactions associated with lidocaine have been reported.

They are not, however expected to occur if Tradocan Forte lozenges are taken correctly:

  • Cimetidine (an active ingredient used for treating excessive gastric acid)
  • Beta blockers, particularly propranolol (specific agents for high blood pressure can lead to rise in the concentration of Lidocaine in the blood.
  • Benzodiazepines (specific sedatives) and barbiturates (specific sleep-including medicines) can result in a drop in the concentration of Lidocaine in the blood.

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Pregnancy:

  • Tradocan Forte lozenges may be used during pregnancy only if considered absolutely necessary and only after consulting your doctor. 

Lactation:

  • If used correctly, Tradocan Forte lozenges will cause no harm during breast-feeding

Possible Side effects of Tradocan Forte lozenge

Diseases of the immune system very rare:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions or sensitization in the oral region.

Laxative effect very rare:

  • Owing to the sorbitol contained therein, the lozenges may have a laxative effect.

Diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract rare:

  • As a result of the desired pain-relieving effect, taste may be affected or the tongue may feel numb.

These effects usually disappear quickly
